Chief Maurice Johnson began his distinguished career in 1989, rising to the rank of Assistant Chief at the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District (Metro Fire). Over his 28-year tenure at Metro Fire, Chief Johnson held numerous command and executive roles, including Air Operations Tactical Flight Officer, Battalion Chief, Director of Emergency Medical Services, Operations Shift Commander, Fire Marshal, and positions in Special Operations and Governmental Affairs.
After an impactful career with Metro Fire, Chief Johnson served as Fire Chief of the El Dorado Hills Fire Department for six years, culminating in his retirement in December 2024. His leadership extended beyond his department, with service on several influential boards at the local and state levels, including the California Fire Chiefs Association (CalChiefs) as Area 3 North Director, FIRESCOPE as Vice-Chair, and the Fire Districts Association of California.
